Coronation Street actor Jack P Shepherd revealed his villainous side ahead of the British Soap Awards when he joked that he wouldn’t cheer for the winner of the Best Actor gong.

Jack, who plays twisted teen David Platt in the ITV1 soap, scooped the award for Best Villain at the event – but lost out in the Best Actor category to Hollyoaks’ Chris Fountain.

Speaking on the purple carpet prior to the event, Jack joked: “If I don’t win, I’m not going to clap or anything for the other person. Why would you? I want to win so I’m not going to pretend to enjoy seeing them win.”

But it seems that Jack is happy to remain a Weatherfield resident for a little while yet.

He said: “I’ve had two really good years so I’ll stay for as long as they’ll have me.”
