Coronation Street‘s Katherine Kelly has revealed how she was forced to wear her alter ego’s trashy outfits after her suitcase failed to turn up as she filmed in Romania.
The actress, who plays reformed drug addict Becky McDonald in the ITV1 soap, even wore her character’s bikinis as underwear as she waited for her luggage to arrive.
Speaking at the launch of the Romanian Holiday DVD in Manchester, Kelly said: “My suitcase didn’t arrive for two days and I phoned the producer and told him – he was panicking because he thought it was Becky’s giant leopard-print suitcase with all her costumes in it, he didn’t seem bothered when I explained it was actually my personal one!
“It turned up after two days, thank God, because I was sick of wearing Becky’s outfits constantly. I had to wear her bikinis as my underwear.”
Kelly joined co-stars David Nielson and Julie Hesmondhalgh, who play Roy and Hayley Cropper respectively, in Romania to film the DVD special.
It sees cafe owners Roy and Hayley head to Transylvania for a footballer’s wedding, and find their peaceful holiday shattered by the groom’s brash aunt and uncle, Verity (Siobhan Finneran) and Glen (John Henshaw).
As they are about to cut their losses and go home, the Croppers bump into newly-wed Becky, who has stormed off from her honeymoon.
The feature follows last year’s Coronation Street spin-off DVD Out Of Africa, which was shot on location in South Africa.
