Coronation Street’s Michelle Collins is delighted with the revamped Rovers Return, but says that acting as a barmaid can be just as tough as doing it for real.
The actress plays Stella Price, the landlady of the pub which was destroyed in a fire and refurbished and the x-EastEnders star said: “The pub has always been the heart of the show I think and people like doing scenes in here.”
But she added: “When you’re this side of the bar it can be a nightmare because you do have very, very long days and you’re on your feet, and I do wear big heels because I’m not that tall.
“I want to be bigger than Norris [Cole] when I’m standing behind here.”
Michelle said she did have some practical concerns about the new pale gold seats in the Coronation Street local.
She said: “They’re a little bit pale these seats, they are going to get really dirty. That’s the first thing I said when I saw them.”
Stella is currently preparing to marry Karl Munro, played by John Michie, who she doesn’t realise was the one who torched the pub and killed Sunita Alahan [Shobna Gulati], framing her for the arson.
Michelle said: “I don’t really know what’s around the corner for Stella. I can’t complain, I’ve had some really fantastic storylines and it’s constantly challenging, so as long as I’ve got that I’m happy.”
