Coronation Street actress Rachel Leskovac has admitted she was nervous about her current storyline, which sees her character hook up with Weatherfield bad boy Tony Gordon.

Rachel, who plays hairdresser Natasha Blakeman in the ITV1 soap, said: “One of the things I was a bit worried about is whether or not it would be plausible or believable, that Tony would get with Natasha.

“I asked Gray (O’Brien), because obviously he’s been playing Tony for a long time and he’s got this huge back story, ‘What is it that Tony would see in Natasha?'”

She continued: “Because it’s not just a one-night stand. What keeps them getting back together?’

“He was saying: ‘Well I think because she doesn’t judge him in any sort of way, like everyone else does. She’s a very open, genuine girl.

“She just wants to have a good time really and he’s quite taken aback by her honesty. There’s no side to her. She’s not trying to get anything from him other than just having a nice time together’.”

Rachel – who also played serial killer nurse Kelly Yorke in Holby City – thinks the difference between herself and her co-star only added to the story’s frisson.

“I think the difference between us works really well because our characters are so different,” she explained.

However, with Maria showing signs of jealousy, don’t be too surprised if Natasha has a fight on her hands in the coming days.
