Coronation Street stars Simon Gregson and Kym Marsh have opened up about Steve McDonald’s imminent breakdown, but say that his recovery is really a love story.
Simon and Kym told What’s on TV that Michelle’s in the dark about his depression which will cause her to leave him, before he’s then involved in a reported minibus tragedy, which results in deaths in January.
Simon told What’s on TV: “I think the thing is with this journey that Steve’s going in with the depression is there will be a time when he hits rock bottom with it. I guess the only way up is to go all the way to the bottom, he kind of has to go there for many reasons. And he does he comes out. It’s bit of a love story really, it’s his love for Michelle that brings him out of it. She’s very supportive.”
Kym lightened the mood, joking: “Not in really life though.”
Simon responded: “No. Terrible in real life, [she] doesn’t care at all!”
Slightly more seriously, Kym added: “She’s just very hurt and confused because it’s like he doesn’t love her any more. She’s so completely… so confused and until he tells her she’s going to be on back foot. We’re going to see a very vulnerable side to Michelle in the next few months.”
