Coronation Street‘s Sue Nicholls reveals to Soaplife that Lewis is the man for Audrey – no matter how bad he has been!

Audrey’s relationship with Lewis has had doom stamped through it from the start, but again and again she ignores her family’s warnings and gives him another chance. “Audrey doesn’t care what her family think – she loves Lewis, he loves her and that’s all the matters,” says Sue. Until Lewis vanishes into thin air…

Lewis disappears on the way back from their holiday, doesn’t he?
“Yes. He just vanishes on the Eurostar on the way home. Audrey doesn’t know what to make of it. It doesn’t add up as they’ve had a wonderful, relaxing holiday. She tells herself he’ll come back with a perfectly reasonable explanation.”

Instead, a woman called Penny turns up claiming Lewis has ripped her off for thousands of pounds!
“Penny reveals that she was engaged to Lewis, who promised her a new life abroad, but then did a runner with 10,000 pounds of her money. She says she spotted Lewis on the Eurostar and that’s why he fled.”

Does Audrey believe Penny?
“What Penny says changes nothing for Audrey. She claims he probably ran off because he was shaken and frightened. Penny tells her to open her eyes and not be a fool, but Audrey’s adamant that Lewis does love her.”

But then Audrey has a change of heart. Why?
“She’s shaken after her encounter with Penny, and Gail and Nick won’t let it lie. They insist if Lewis did love her he wouldn’t have disappeared for days without so much as a phone call. The reality of that hits Audrey and the emotions come spilling out. She feels like an old fool again.”

But then Lewis reappears!
“And he actually tells Audrey exactly what Penny told her. He’s horrified when he hears Penny has tracked him down and says he’ll have to go on the run again. He says it’s his only option.”

And he asks Audrey to go with him!
“She says she will, but she has a lot of doubts about it.”

And then something stops her…
“Her family turn up and catch Lewis with her… And worse, Penny turns up, too, and threatens to call the police.”

But Audrey gives her the 10,000 pounds! Does she wonder at all whether this is another Lewis con?
“No, she believes Lewis has changed. Audrey’s had a glimpse of what her life would be like without him in it and she couldn’t bear it. He means more to her than anything else in the world and Audrey will do whatever it takes to keep him in her life. She loves him and she’s convinced he loves her, too…”
