Kevin Kennedy and Bruce Jones will star in the video for the re-released version of Agadoo.

25 years after it first hit the charts, the song – famous for its wacky dance routine and the lyrics ‘Agadoo-doo-doo, push pineapple, shake the tree’ – is being re-released by band Black Lace.

The track was banned by Radio 1 because it ‘was not credible’ but still managed to peak at No 2 and spent 30 weeks in the UK top 75 in 1984.

The group was made up of Yorkshire hit-makers Colin Routh, Alan Barton and later, Dene Michael.

Dene is now breathing new life into the song with an updated video featuring the cast of Benidorm and former Coronation Street stars Kevin and Bruce, who played Curly Watts and Les Battersby in the ITV1 soap, respectively.

Dene said: “With all the doom and gloom in the world, I think this is just what we need.”

Q magazine once branded the track as ‘magnificently dreadful’.

It is yet to be seen what the mag will make of the updated version.
