Fire and debris have been seen rising above the Coronation Street set as the first scenes in the dramatic tram crash storyline were filmed.

Peter Barlow, Julie Carp, Hayley Cropper, Ken Barlow, Izzy Armstrong, Carla Connor, Steve McDonald and his dad Jim were among the characters spotted arriving at the Manchester studios on Monday night, according to The Daily Mirror, suggesting they could all be possible victims of the crash.

The tram is set to come off the viaduct that passes over the street, crashing into Dev’s corner shop and the Kabin’s newsagency, in what producers have called the soap’s most expensive stunt ever, costing a reported £1 million.

Executive producer Kieran Roberts revealed that at least three people are set to die and another person will be murdered as part of the dramatic events to mark Coronation Street’s 50th anniversary in December.

Coronation Street bosses are keen to keep the outcome of the plot under wraps and blocked off as much of the view of the set as they could from prying eyes with scaffolding and tarpaulin.

To cut down on potential plot leaks, cast members have only been given scripts for the scenes they’re involved in.

Vicky Entwistle, who plays Janice Battersby, recently announced she is leaving the ITV1 soap, fuelling rumours she may be one of the people set to die in the disaster.
