Helen Flanagan is set to return to Coronation Street as Rosie Webster

The new mum is reportedly preparing to return to the cobbles as ditzy Rosie.

With actress Lucy Fallon’s exit from Coronation Street announced last week, Bethany Platt became the seventh character set to leave the soap in the space of three months.

But according to an insider, several old faces are set to return to fill the gap – including Helen Flanagan as Rosie Webster. And it’s all down to a series of crisis meetings about how to manage the holes the mass departures have left on our screens.

“Things are pretty bleak behind the scenes,” the source told The Sun on Sunday. “Bosses want to bring joy back, on and off screen. The plan is to bring back one or two high-profile stalwarts who are a hit with older viewers.”

“They’re keen for Helen to sign after maternity leave,” the source confirmed.

Helen has said she’s keen to return to Corrie after her maternity leave.

Helen quit the soap for the second time last year, to have her second child with her partner, footballer Scott Sinclair. Their daughter Delilah Ruby was born on 22nd June 2018. The couple already have a three-year-old daughter, Matilda Jessica.

Helen’s character Rosie left Coronation Street to become a presenter on Japanese TV after a failed attempt to bust ex-boyfriend Antoine for drug dealing resulted in her being talent-spotted by an agent who saw her on This Morning.

At the time, the actress revealed that she was hoping to return to the soap. “I’ve really enjoyed doing all the comedy since I’ve been back,” she told The Mirror. “And the great thing about this storyline is it leaves it open for me to come back after maternity leave.”

But she admitted that Scott’s job could make a return to the cobbles tricky, saying: “With Scott’s job we’re settled in Glasgow at the moment but I’d love to go back to Coronation Street.

“It’s just a matter of when and how I work it. We all share parenting tips in the green room at Corrie. It’s such a family atmosphere.”

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
