Coronation Street bosses have denied reports that Julie Walters is about to take up a role in the ITV soap.
Previously, the Daily Mirror had said that an appearance from the Mamma Mia! star in Weatherfield was on the cards, but programme-makers have quashed the rumours.
According to Metro, a Coronation Street spokesman said: “Julie is a fantastic actress, so it would be great to have her on board in the future if the right role came up and if she had time in her busy work schedule.
“However, there are no plans at the moment for her to join the show.”
Fans of Julie may well see her in Coronation Street at some point, as she’s made no secret of how much she would love to make a cameo.
In 2007 she said: “Corrie was the very first thing I watched. That’s why it’s my favourite. I wonder if they would ask me?”
Then in 2010 she added: “It depends on the part, but I’d love a little something in Corrie.
“Someone once asked if it was true I was going to play Audrey’s sister and I thought, ‘What a good idea’, but nothing came of that. I’m a big soap fan.”
Other famous acting faces to have appeared on the cobbles include Nigel Havers and Sir Ian McKellen.
