Corrie boss Kate Oates reveals two new female characters are heading to the cobbles this Spring

Rula Lenska and Nigel Havers also returning to the soap

Coronation Street boss Kate Oates has revealed that two new female characters are heading to the cobbles this Spring.

First up is Emma Brooker, a trainee hairdresser who starts an apprenticeship at the salon. She’s played by Alexandra Mardell, who had a guest role in the Brenda Blethyn crime drama, Vera, last year.

She’ll be followed by a character called Kayla, played by Mollie Winnard – who has previously starred in the Kay Mellor drama Love, Lies and Records.

“Kayla will be working in Speed Daal (Zeedan Nazir’s new restaurant),” reveals Corrie producer, Kate Oates. “She’s going to be causing trouble for Bethany and Craig…”

Meanwhile, show bosses have also confirmed the return of two old faces to the Street in the Summer. Nigel Havers will be reprising his role as dastardly Lewis Archer – the conman who famously swindled Gail Platt in 2013, before fleeing to Belize.

There's shock in store for Audrey and Gail, too, when they come across love-rat Lewis Archer while out at a country pub!

Rula Lenska will also be back as stylist Claudia Colby, owner of rival salon Perm Suspect. She was last seen on the cobbles in 2011.

Lewis (above) and Claudia will feature in two separate comedy storylines involving Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls). It hasn’t been revealed whether either character will be connected to the current storyline in which Audrey and daughter Gail (Helen Worth) have taken in by so-called clairvoyant Rosemary Piper (Sophie Thompson), who claims to be in touch with the pair’s dead husbands.

Coronation Street continues on ITV.
