Coronation Street star Keith Duffy has revealed details of his forthcoming Christmas exit, which involves a robbery.

The former Boyzone singer-turned-actor, who recently reprised his Weatherfield role as hunky chef Ciaran McCarthy with screen fiancee Michelle Connor (Kym Marsh), admitted his alter-ego will be shown the door after getting caught stealing money for his gambling habit.

“Ciaran gambles away all his wedding money and then gets into trouble with Michelle and then he robs a bistro to get his money back and then he gets caught. It’s great,” he told RTE.

Keith, who quit the cobbles in September after nearly a decade on and off, revealed that Coronation Street bosses are happy for him to return to the ITV1 soap at any time.

“[The door] is very much open. The producers said that while they understood my family commitments in Ireland, they told me to remember that there was always a job for me on the Street,” he said.

The 37-year-old, who is starring in an upcoming Irish theatre show, reckoned his TV return has challenged him as an actor.

“I get loads of opportunity to show all my flair from all different angles,” he added.
