Coronation Street‘s newest star Les Dennis says he turned down a role in Hollyoaks before the cobbles came calling.
The comedian and presenter will take up a role as a Weatherfield burglar on Monday and will return to the ITV soap later in the year after a break.
He told Soap Squawk: “About six months ago, I was approached by Hollyoaks. It was a character that is on screen at the moment, so I won’t say [who] because somebody else got it.
“Hollyoaks is a great soap, but Corrie is my favourite, so [I’m] pleased that I’m in Corrie. My wife is a massive fan, all my family watch it. They love it. So everybody is thrilled for me.”
Les also said that being new hadn’t been too daunting because the rest of the cast were in the same boat as it was their first week at the show’s new set.
He said: “Because Corrie has moved from Granada and is in the this new brilliant purpose-built building with the new set and everything, so weirdly everybody was going, ‘We don’t know where we are. We don’t know how to get anywhere.’
“So I was like, ‘How do I get to make-up?’ They said, ‘Oh, I don’t know yet. This is my first day here as well.’
“Helen Worth was saying to me, ‘I think it’s down that corridor and then down some steps.’ So it was kind of weirdly surreal that I was there with everybody else disorientated, we were all in the same boat.”
