Coronation Street newcomer Marc Baylis has said that it has always been the dream of his 88-year-old grandmother to see him in the soap.

Marc, who has just joined the show as Carla Connor’s bad boy brother Rob Donovan, told Inside Soap that now he has achieved the ambition he is looking forward to making her proud.

“I asked my nan what show she’d most like to see me in, and she said Coronation Street,” said the 34-year-old.

“I’m not sure she knows I’m in it full-time yet, though – I think she still believes it’s just a walk-on part.”

And speaking to The Sun, he also revealed he had promised her he would try and land a part in the show – but never expected it to be such a major role.

“It was a whimsical promise and I never expected it to be a part like this one,” Marc explained. “If I’d got a small scene walking into the Rovers or down the street, she would still have been happy.

“But obviously that conversation sowed the seeds. She was one of the first people I told when I got the part. Although when I told her she said she quite likes Emmerdale now!”

Marc added that viewers could expect plenty of dramatic storylines from his character in the coming months, due to his shady past.

“Carla and Rob are both fiery, passionate people – so when they clash, expect fireworks!” he said. “They have a lot of unfinished business and unresolved issues which could rear their heads at any time.”
