Coronation Street actor Michael Le Vell will not return to the show in time for its Christmas special.

The 48-year-old, who is best known for playing mechanic Kevin Webster in the ITV soap for 30 years, had been rumoured to be lined up for a festive comeback, reported the Daily Mirror.

But a spokeswoman for the show denied the stories, saying that Michael would not be seen on screen until 2014.

He has not appeared on the show since February, when he was charged with child abuse offences. He was cleared of all the charges on September 11.

After the verdicts were announced, Michael, whose real name is Michael Turner, admitted he had to discuss his return with Coronation Street bosses, saying: “I don’t know, I might have a holiday first. I’ll have to go and have a chat with my boss.”

A spokeswoman for Coronation Street said: “We are looking forward to meeting with Michael to discuss his return to the programme.”

There are rumours that the actor has been offered a lucrative spot on ITV reality show I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!
