Coronation Street star Michelle Keegan has admitted that she was initially shocked when she discovered that her character Tina McIntyre was being killed off.
While the actress announced last year she was leaving the ITV soap to seek other opportunities, she had initially assumed the door would be left open for a potential return.
However when she discovered that wasn’t the case, she said she was “gutted”.She told OK!: “
“I was gutted for Tina more than anything because I always thought she was one of those characters that could come back in the future,” she told OK magazine.
“She’s got no family and I thought a relative could come in for her, because she’s not had a very good life. Her dad died, she hasn’t had much luck with men – and then her life is over!”
Michelle said she had been initially told that the option of a return to Corrie would be there.
“The producers said ‘that’s fine, we’ll leave the door open,’ and then they told me they were killing Tina off, which surprised me a bit.
“But I am totally fine with it as the writing will be amazing and I work with so many talented people.”
And she concluded that the storyline, which will air in the Spring, would at least be a memorable one.
“Looking at it now, I’d rather go out with a bang than off in a black cab,” Michelle said.
