Coronation Street star Michelle Keegan has ruled out appearing on the next series of Strictly Come Dancing in order to focus on her role in the soap.

The actress, who plays Tina McIntyre on the show, had been tipped to take a break from Corrie to take to the dancefloor when the show returns in the autumn.

However the Mirror reports that the 25-year-old stands to pocket a big-money deal when her contract is renewed later this year – and as a result is remaining committed to the Street.

“We don’t let our stars just sidestep away from their commitments here on the cobbles to go on Strictly, especially someone like Michelle who we value so highly,” a show source told the paper.

“She is going nowhere and her current deal, which runs out towards the end of the year, will be renewed soon.”

A Strictly insider said that the actress had been one of a number of “big names” they were considering for the show, adding that they were after “huge stars” for this series, which will be the tenth.

Others who have been rumoured to be heading for the ballroom include TV presenter Fern Britton, newsreader Sian Williams, EastEnders stars Sid Owen and Charlie Brookes, cricketer Michael Vaughn and Olympic gold medallist Amy Williams.
