Michelle Keegan wants Corrie role ‘open’

Coronation Street actress Michelle Keegan has said that she does not want her character Tina McIntyre to be killed off when she leaves the soap next year.

The 25-year-old revealed on Saturday she would make her exit from Weatherfield in Spring 2014 after six years on the show.

However she has indicated that she would like the option to return to the show at some point, according to the Mirror.

“I’d love them to keep the role open for me,” Michelle is reported to have told a friend.

“It’s time to move on but I love the character and definitely wouldn’t rule out coming back.”

Michelle confirmed her decision to quit the show in a statement following reports over the weekend that she was planning to leave.

“I have had the most amazing six years at Coronation Street and it was such a difficult decision to leave,” she said.

“But I felt it was the right time for me to make the next step in my career.

“I will miss Tina and will always be grateful to ITV and Coronation Street for giving me such an amazing role to play for my first ever acting job.

“Most of all I will miss the amazing people who work on the show, my acting colleagues, cast, crew, producers and writing team. I have met people who I know will be friends for life.”

Show boss Stuart Blackburn said that plans were already being made for the character to exit with a bang.
