Coronation Street star Bev Callard says that her real-life partner has got used to her character’s man-eating habits on the soap.

Bev, who plays feisty Liz McDonald on the show, admitted that Jon McEwan used to find it strange watching her on screen with other men.

“I think when we first got together he found it a bit like, ‘Woah, this is a bit disturbing, watching your woman snogging another guy on the telly,” the 53-year-old said.

As well as dating her son Steve’s best friend Lloyd and being attracted to barman Ciaran – played by Boyzone’s Keith Duffy – Liz is also set for a new romance with younger man Owen, played by actor Ian Puleston-Davies.

“They told me who was playing him. I didn’t know who he was, but apparently he’s got a great CV and is fantastic,” Bev said.

And she met him unexpectedly while watching her former co-star Suranne Jones in a play.

“This guy was in the audience,” she revealed. “He came up to me and said ‘Hi! I’m hoping I’m coming in to work with you’ I only just found out the name of Liz’s new man. Apparently he’s called Owen, but we haven’t even worked together yet.”
