Coronation Street star Sol Heras is set to have a break from the soap in coming months, when his character Ryan Connor leaves Weatherfield.

A spokeswoman for Coronation Street confirmed the news on Twitter, tweeting: “Ryan will leave Weatherfield for the time being – end of the summer.”

She said that there is a possibility he would be back in the future, adding: “As a character with connections in the show there is no reason he couldn’t return at some point.”

Since joining the show in 2012, when he took over the role of Ryan from Ben Thompson, Sol has been involved in major storylines including embarking on an affair with Katy Armstrong (Georgia May Foote) and cocaine addiction.

The 25-year-old admitted he would miss his screen mother Kym Lomas, who plays Michelle Connor, the most.

“Kym is one of my best friends on the show. She took me under her wing and we’ve become best friends. She’s ace, we talk all the time. And with Ryan being Michelle’s son there’s a chance he could come back,” he told the Daily Star.

Sol also admitted that he’s been given a tough time over Ryan’s behaviour on the soap.

“Guys congratulate me on having a gorgeous girlfriend, but other people moan and say I should leave her alone. I was on a golf course recently and the lady behind the bar refused to serve me. She said, ‘You’re an a******e. I can’t serve you,'” he added.
