The mystery of the fourth Corrie death is solved

Coronation Street bosses have confirmed the identity of the fourth person to die during its 50th anniversary episodes – and it’s a complete unknown.

The soap promoted its milestone week, which featured an explosion and tram crash, with the strapline ‘four funerals and a wedding’.

But fans were left scratching their heads when only three well-known characters – Molly Dobbs (Vicky Binns), Ashley Peacock (Steven Arnold) and Charlotte Hoyle (Becky Hindley) – popped their clogs.

The fourth victim was a taxi driver, mentioned briefly by fire fighters during Thursday’s live episode, and show bosses said viewers will not see the funeral on screen.

Producer Phil Collinson explained: “It was vital that we created as much anticipation and intrigue as possible for anniversary week.

“The ‘Four Funerals’ tag was too good to resist and encouraged the speculation about who would and who would not survive this terrible week in Weatherfield.

“In this case, speculation became a big part of the viewers’ identification with the drama and therefore enhanced their enjoyment of it.”
