Coronation Street star Wendi Peters has returned to the famous cobbles to reprise her role as Cilla Battersby-Brown.
The 46-year-old actress joked she had donned the brashy jewellery and padded bra to play the feisty mum-of-three as she shot her first scenes back on the ITV soap.
“Jewellery Bra with chicken fillets. Here goes … #CillasBack #corrie,” Wendi tweeted.
Coronation Street also shared a photo of the actress reuniting with her loved ones including her screen son Chesney (Sam Aston) and his girlfriend Sinead Tinker (Katie McGlynn), and screen daughter Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) with her boyfriend Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) on their official Twitter page.
“It’s the lovely @WendiPeters’ first day filming on the Street #CillasBack (See her on screen in October!),” they wrote.
Wendi is returning to Coronation Street for a six-week stint, as part of an upcoming storyline to tie in with Fiz’s temporary departure, when Jennie goes on maternity leave in the autumn.
Wendi, who left Coronation Street in 2007, said: “I’m really thrilled to have the opportunity to revisit Cilla and the cobbles for a short while and to see what she has been up to for the last seven years.”
Coronation Street’s producer Stuart Blackburn added: “We can’t wait to see Cilla back on the cobbles. She’s a truly unforgettable character who is at the heart of Corrie’s rich history.”
