Hollyoaks star Jennifer Metcalfe has become the latest celebrity to get the boot from Dancing On Ice 2011 in a shock result.

The actress had performed well earlier in the show, scoring 19 out of 30 from the judges and faring far better than other performers including “Comedy” Dave Vitty and Kerry Katona.

Nonetheless, she found herself in the skate-off on Sunday night alongside rapper Vanilla Ice – who also finished mid-table – after the results of the public vote were announced.

And after both had reprised their routines from the earlier show’s Las Vegas-themed evening, the judges chose unanimously to save the latter.

However they also expressed their surprise about who had landed in the bottom two.

“It’s at that point in the competition where the public are voting and two very competent skaters are in the skate off,” said Jason Gardiner. “I’m going to go for the person who has the most personality in their performance, I’m going to save Rob(Vanilla).”

And Robin Cousins agreed. “I didn’t expect to see either of you for a couple of weeks but on that performance I’m saving Rob,” he told the pair.

The result came as a shock for Jennifer, who was overcome with emotion afterwards.

“I can’t really speak,” the 27-year-old said tearfully before being comforted by skating partner Sylvain Longchambon.

Earlier in the show Jennifer had been largely praised by the judges for her performance, although Jason had expressed his reservations.

“Tonight I can see you are very competent as a skater,” he said, “but you are still hanging back in your performance.”

Nine celebrities now remain in the competition, with Denise Welch, Johnson Beharry and Jeff Brazier – who survived last weekend’s skate-off – all making it through along with favourites Laura Hamilton, Sam Attwater and Chloe Madeley.
