Hayley Tamaddon has been crowned champion of Dancing On Ice 2010, after a closely fought competition against fellow finalist Gary Lucy.

The Emmerdale actress – who had been the hot favourite to win the series after topping the judges’ scoreboard almost every week – took the title after wowing the panel with a trio of routines in Sunday’s final.

Earlier in the evening Hollyoaks star Kieron Richardson finished in third place.

The final saw all three performing routines in which they flew above the rink on wires, as well as reprising their favourite routine from earlier in the series.

After Kieron was eliminated, both Hayley and Gary made one final bid for the series title by recreating Torvill and Dean’s classic Bolero routine.

Hayley – who screamed as the result was announced and choked back tears as she received the trophy – said she had “loved every single minute” of her time on the show, and praised her skating partner Daniel Whiston, who is an old childhood friend of hers.

“It’s been an absolute dream to skate with my best friend and I’ve loved it, I can’t thank you enough,” she said.

Gary Lucy, meanwhile, accepted his defeat graciously, congratulating Hayley on her victory.

“She was fantastic from the start, sixes across the board thoroughly deserved,” he said, “and I’m just happy that we’ve had such a great time and got so far.

“And my little ‘un over there,” he added, referring to his four-year-old daughter India in the audience, “she’s just loved every minute of it.”

Earlier in the show Hayley had finished ahead of Gary and Kieron on the judges’ scoreboard with both of her routines.

After dropping just one point for her airborne routine she then reprised the Bollywood-inspired routine which had scored her 30 out of 30 earlier in the series – and once again she received a full house from the panel.

“You didn’t deliver what you did a few weeks ago, you delivered something better,” Robin Cousins said. And Karen Barber was equally enthusiastic.

“On your first session you told us you were going to work hard and make us proud,” she said. “You’ve kept that promise, well done.”

Emma Bunton, meanwhile, admitted she felt “emotional” after watching Hayley’s ‘flying’ routine. “I know how much you’ve worked for this, and you’re doing it with one of your best friends,” she said. “It was absolutely magical.”

Nicky Slater was equally enthusiastic. “It was absolutely beautiful,” he said, “and from the first moment it was like a love story on the ice, from that first moment when you look into each other’s eyes I believe it.”

Hayley’s victory is also a triumph for Daniel Whiston, who is the professional winner for the second time. He also won the first series as skating partner to actress Gaynor Faye.
