Johnson Beharry VC has missed out on a place in the Dancing on Ice 2011 final following the last skate-off of the series.

The Iraq war hero lost out after finding himself in the bottom two alongside Chloe Madeley – who was facing the skate-off for the first time.

After both had reprised their routines, the decision from the judges was unanimous – although they all praised Johnson for his efforts.

“Johnson, congratulations for making it this far,” Robin Cousins said, “but I’m saving Chloe.”

Jason Gardiner added, “It’s about having a final we can be proud of, but Johnson you’ve come an incredibly long way.”

Emma Bunton agreed, saying, “Johnson, you’ve been an inspiration, but Chloe I’m not letting you go anywhere.”

Afterwards, the 31-year-old kept smiling, despite narrowly losing out on the final.

“There’s no need to be sad,” he said, “I had loads of fun. No need to be sad, I had the time of my life.

And he reserved special praise for his skating partner Jodeyne Higgins and her husband Sean Rice, who partnered Angela Rippon earlier in the series. “Words can’t describe how much they helped me,” he said.

His departure means that Chloe will compete in next Sunday’s final for the series title, along with Laura Hamilton and Sam Attwater who both made it through on the public vote.
