Mikey Graham has become the latest celebrity to get the boot from Dancing On Ice following the closest skate-off of the series so far.

The Boyzone star found himself in the bottom two on this week’s movie-themed show alongside Danniella Westbrook, who was saved by the judges last weekend.

But the panel was divided when it came to delivering their verdict, with Nicky Slater and Jason Gardiner both opting to save Mikey and Emma Bunton and Karen Barber voting for Danniella.

That left Robin Cousins to seal Mikey’s fate with the casting vote. “It was a great skate off,” he said, “but one spin does not a performance make.”

Mikey said afterwards he had had an “amazing journey” on the show.

“There comes a time at the end of every party when it’s time to leave, and it’s been such an adventure,” he said, “publicly and personally this has given me a magnificent feeling.”

“And I want to thank Stephen up there,” he added, referring to his late bandmate Stephen Gately who was a contestant on the show in 2007.

Mikey had had a disappointing couple of weeks on the show leading up to his departure, struggling last weekend after he injured his shoulder during dress rehearsals.

This week he did better, skating to When You Say Nothing At All by his Boyzone bandmate Ronan Keating – but the judges still had their reservations about his routine. “I believe you can skate better than this,” Nicky Slater told him.

Just five celebrity skaters now remain, with Gary Lucy, Danny Young, Hayley Tamaddon and Kieron Richardson all winning a place in next week’s show on the public vote.
