Ray Quinn was the stand-out performer on the early round of Dancing on Ice week three, but for sheer entertainment Todd Carty was the winner.

The former EastEnders star came a long last after his comedy routine, which ended with him seeming to skate off the rink out of control and down an exit tunnel.

Host Phillip Schofield said: “You are responsible for my favourite Dancing on Ice moment ever!” Alas, the hilarious ‘mistake’ turned out to be choreographed.

To The Beatles’ Help! Todd stumbled and gurned his way to 9.5 out of 30 from the judges, a long way behind Ray’s lead on 25 and way behind the next lowest scorer Donal McIntyre on 15 points.

Todd was a clear hit with the live audience, but will he find enough favour with the voting public to be saved and become Dancing on Ice’s version of Strictly’s John Sergeant?

The other scores in the early round, all hoping to avoid the skate-off, were:

Jessica Taylor 20.5

Melinda Messenger 19

Roxanne Pallett 18

Michael Underwood 17

Coleen Nolan 17

Jeremy Edwards 16

Ellery Hanley 16

Donal McIntyre 15
