The seven male celebrities competing in Dancing On Ice 2010 have taken to the rink for the first time in a bid to stay in the competition.
First on to the ice was Bill star Gary Lucy, who is tipped as one of the favourites to win the series.
And despite scoring an impressive 17.5 from the judges for his routine to Free’s All Right Now, he came in from some criticism from Jason Gardiner.
“It was all right now and then,” he said. “You were incredibly polite, almost borderline dull.”
Dr Hilary Jones fared less well on the scoreboard with just 11.5 points, but the judges praised him for his enthusiasm. Emma Bunton described him as “endearing” while Nicky Slater said, “I find myself smiling when I watch you skate.”
However it was Coronation Street’s Danny Young who made the biggest impression of the night, finishing at the top of the judges’ scoreboard with 18 points. “I couldn’t take my eyes off you,” Emma told him.
Funnyman Bobby Davro, meanwhile, was left at the bottom of the board with just 10.5 points for his routine to George Harrison’s Got My Mind Set On You.
However the panel were kind to the 50-year-old, who is partnered with show newcomer Molly Moenkhoff. “Your skating skills need development,” Slater told him, “but for entertainment value you had me smiling from ear to ear.”
Also impressing the judges were Hollyoaks actor Kieron Richardson and his skating partner Brianne Delcourt. “I didn’t feel much connection with your partner very much,” said Gardiner. “But I think you will progress.”
The final two performers of the evening received very different reactions.
Holby City actor Jeremy Sheffield – who missed out on several weeks training due to a hamstring injury – struggled to make an impact with his routine, while Boyzone’s Mikey Graham, who rounded off the show, fared better.
“Your skating needs some passion and drama to go with it,” Robin Cousins told Sheffield. “You made everybody else look speedy.”
And he praised Graham, telling him he had “a natural skater’s posture. I’m excited to see how you progress in the weeks to come,” Cousins added.
The results will be revealed later on Sunday evening, with one more celebrity eliminated from the competition.
