The TV presenter, who was born in Essex, told The Sun that the stars of the ITV2 reality hit should not be taken seriously, and that the county had a lot more to offer.
I enjoy it from a comedy point of view,” he said of the show. “But I wouldn’t like to think people imagine this is exactly what Essex is like.
“It’s a big county and this only represents what 20-year-olds are doing in the Buckhurst Hill and Loughton areas. We all go through the stage of going out and seeing different people at the same time.”
And Jeff, who currently lives in Old Harlow with girlfriend Claire Springett and sons Bobby and Freddie – from his relationship with Jade Goody – added that there was a lot of talent in Essex.
“We’ve got Stacey Solomon doing very well on The X Factor and winning I’m A Celebrity, Kara Tointon winning Strictly Come Dancing, Olly Murs doing fantastically well and Matt Cardle also winning The X Factor,” he pointed out.
He said, “I hope I can bring something to the table by being a good person, a good TV presenter, and if I do well on Dancing on Ice it confirms all the talent is coming from our area.
We’re definitely better representations of the county than the people on The Only Way Is Essex.”
