Jason Gardiner has branded Dancing on Ice fans ‘idiots’ after their reactions to a row with Denise Welch and her husband Tim Healy.
According to The Mirror, the star is outraged that people have criticised him for the comments he made about Denise Welch’s performance at the weekend, which prompted her husband Tim to confront him on stage.
Jason said: “I am trying to do my job. I am doing what am I paid to do, which is to critique and say what I see.
“It does always surprise me that people take such umbrage about critique. They need to put into perspective what I am saying.
“It’s hilarious that it has all turned into a circus. It is beyond pantomime, it is circus.”
Dancing on Ice fans have bombarded presenter Phillip Schofield’s Twitter account over Jason’s rudeness to Tim and Denise. Jason responded by sending Phillip a message that read: “Sorry that a few idiots on here are giving you a hard time over my reaction to bad breath. You should see the tweets I’ve gotten.”
He also used Twitter to tell people if they don’t like the ITV programme then they should turn it off: “Then don’t watch, you idiot. No one is forcing you.”
Speaking at the Television and Radio Industries Club Awards in London, Jason added: “I assess everything as it happens. You are live and it is unpredictable. We don’t know how it is going to play out on the night. I can’t be too consumed with whether it is going to upset a lot of people.
“For all of the people that are upset there are many more that aren’t.
“There have been a couple of instances when my producers have told me ‘that was close to the mark – we could have done without that’. But ultimately it has brought a lot of publicity.”
