Billie Piper to star in ‘Dreadful’ for Sky Atlantic

Billie Piper is to co-star in a new psychological thriller series for Sky Atlantic fusing the tales of Doctor Frankenstein, Dorian Gray and characters from the novel Dracula.

Penny Dreadful will be set in Victorian London and weave together classic horror stories, with the lead characters ‘grappling with their monstrous alienation’.

US film star Josh Hartnett will play the lead role of Ethan Chandler, a charming American who finds himself trapped in the darkest corners of Victorian London, while French beauty Eva Green (Casino Royale) will play Vanessa Ives, a seductive and formidable beauty.
Former Doctor Who companion Billie will play Brona Croft, an Irish immigrant in Victorian London trying to escape a dark past, alongside Rory Kinnear (Skyfall), Harry Treadaway (The Lone Ranger) and Reeve Carney (Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark).
Penny Dreadful will be produced by three-time Oscar nominee John Logan, while Oscar winner Sam Mendes will executive produce the series.

John Logan said: “I’m thrilled to be bringing Penny Dreadful to life here in the UK, where the show is set and was conceived over many years of wandering the streets of London. I think the talent we are bringing together for the show promises to create something memorable.”

Penny Dreadful is a co-production between Sky Atlantic and US network Showtime.
