Peter Capaldi is likely to keep his Scottish accent when he stars as the Time Lord in Doctor Who.

Steven Moffat gave a few hints about the regeneration – The Thick Of It star takes over from Matt Smith at Christmas – in Doctor Who magazine.

According to Doctor Who TV, he told the magazine that Peter’s Doctor would be an “older, trickier and fiercer” character, and said he wanted an older actor to work as a contrast to Matt and previous incumbent David Tennant.

He added that current sidekick Clara, played by Jenna Coleman, might have difficulty getting used to the new incarnation.

“Just as Clara’s learning to have a proper old crush on him, suddenly he’s Malcolm Tucker!” he joked of Peter’s famous spin-doctor character in The Thick Of It.

“I think the fun story will be – and we have the opportunity here – is this is what regeneration can do to you. He can be very, very different,” he added.

Executive producer Steven said they’d only discussed 12 costumes, but had a long way to go.

Peter was unveiled as the 12th Doctor in a special live BBC One show earlier this month.
