Doctor Who finale will ‘change show’

Doctor Who main man Steven Moffat has hinted that the final episode of the current series will ‘change the course of the show forever’.

The episode, titled The Name Of The Doctor, will introduce new adversary The Whispermen to proceedings – but Steven said fans of the show can expect a lot more than that.

“It’s full of surprises and questions that have never been answered in the history of Doctor Who, including the Doctor’s greatest secret,” he said.

“We’ll also find out what makes his new companion Clara (Jenna-Louise Coleman) so impossible and there’s a surprise that no-one has got right so far.

“All I can say is that Clara hasn’t just met the Doctor three times before.

Steven’s comments about the show – as well as the title of the episode – have led to fan speculation that the character’s real name may finally be revealed.

And he added that the Whispermen could join the ranks of the series’ most terrifying villains.

“Having brought back two of the classics, the Ice Warriors and the Cybermen, this year we wanted a brand new monster to create chills in the finale,” he said.

“And the thought of stylish, whispering, almost faceless creatures was an idea that firstly scared me and that I thought would work well in an episode that looks forward and back.”

The Name Of The Doctor will be screened on Saturday May 18.
