As the BBC releases another teasing trailer for the new series of Doctor Who (below), former Time Lord David Tennant has said he is eagerly awaiting Peter Capaldi’s Doctor Who series because everything the actor does excites him.

Broadchurch star David said he was a huge fan of Peter’s, and that he thought signing up the actor must have been a no-brainer for the show’s bosses.

Asked whether he would be watching the new series, David joked: “I never watch it, never watched it since I left, I can’t bear any of them.

Then added: “Of course I will! How could I not? It’s compulsory in Britain anyway, you have to now.

“I haven’t seen any of the new series yet,” David continued, “but everything about Peter Capaldi gets me terribly excited so I’m very much looking forward to it.”

Asked if he was surprised at an older actor being cast as the Doctor, David replied: “I think if you’ve got the chance of signing Peter Capaldi then you do it.”

Doctor Who series eight starts on BBC1 on Saturday, August 23.
