Doctor Who fans hail Jodie Whittaker after Trust Me premiere

Fans lined up to praise Doctor Who-elect Jodie Whittaker after her debut in absorbing medical drama Trust Me

Doctor Who fans have been left even more excited for Jodie Whittaker’s debut as the next Time Lord after watching her take centre stage in new psychological drama, Trust Me.

The show, which launched on BBC1 on Tuesday, saw Jodie play a deceptive nurse who fraudulently steals her doctor friend’s identity to get a new job after she lost hers for whistle-blowing.

Viewers were awestruck by the 35-year-old’s performance, with one person posting on Twitter: “Trust me is so good and it’s made me even more excited for Jodie Whittaker to become the doctor.”

Another added: “I hope a few of the “Jodie Whittaker is a terrible actress/the wrong choice for #DoctorWho” brigade saw Trust Me. What a great performance!”

Others also complimented the gripping drama – also starring Emun Elliott and Sharon Small – and praised it’s amazing lead star.

One commented: “Trust me showed how amazing Jodie Whittaker is,” while another even wrote: “Trust Me review: I want to marry Jodie Whittaker.”

Hours before the first episode broadcast, Jodie said of her character, Cath Hardacre: “I love the fact that her choices are quite morally dubious – they certainly aren’t black and white.

“She makes decisions that are quite challenging to justify, even though we know her reasons.”

Also known for her role in TV drama series Broadchurch, Jodie made TV history when she was unveiled last month as the first woman to portray the Time Lord in Doctor Who, a role she is taking over from Peter Capaldi.

Trust me continues on BBC 1 at 9pm on Tuesday.
