Gemma Arterton has admitted she would love a part in Doctor Who – as an alien.

The actress has starred as a St Trinians schoolgirl, a Bond girl and Tess of the D’Urbervilles, but said there was still one key role she would love to bag.

According to Mail Online, she tells The Graham Norton Show: “I’d like to be an alien or something and not the typical kind of Doctor Who assistant.”

Gemma was in good company for her plea, as one of the show’s other guests was Peter Capaldi, who took on playing the Doctor this series.

He said of his life now: “I wake up in the morning and I’m Doctor Who, and when I go out to the shops and buy a pint of milk, I’m Doctor Who, everywhere I go I am The Doctor and everyone smiles at me – they are pleased to see Doctor Who, who’s far more exciting than I am.”

Gemma also talked about her excitement at being part of the musical of Made In Dagenham: “Everything about it is just wonderful. I always sang and always wanted to go in a musical but the right thing hadn’t come along. I wanted to do something original and never done before.

“It’s such a big commitment for me that it had to be the right thing. I’ve sung in films before but this is the first time in public.”

The Graham Norton Show is on BBC One tonight (September 26) at 10.35pm.
