Former Doctor Who star Karen Gillan has unveiled a startling new look for her role in the sci-fi blockbuster Guardians Of The Galaxy.
Karen – who played Amy Pond in the hit show – revealed at the Comic Con event in San Diego that she has gone totally bald in order to play ‘space pirate’ Nebula in the Marvel movie.
She surprised fans at the convention by initially appearing in a red wig – which she quickly whipped off to reveal her new look.
And she described her newly shaven head as ‘liberating’, adding: “I think everyone here should shave their head.”
Karen’s character is one of the villains in the film, which is based on a team of superheroes created by Marvel and which is due for release in August 2014.
The movie will also feature Hollywood stars Benicio del Toro, Lee Pace and Zoe Saldana.
it is the biggest project yet for the actress, who has made a number of movies since leaving Doctor Who in late 2012.
As well as a role in the forthcoming sci-fi flick Oculus, she also recently starred as a frustrated author in the romantic comedy Not Another Happy Ending, which recently closed this year’s Edinburgh International Film Festival.
