The new trailer for the 50th anniversary episode of Doctor Who left fans of the show thrilled when it debuted on Saturday night – even though it did not feature any footage from the actual show.

The minute long clip took a rapid trip through all eleven of the Time Lord’s incarnations – starting with original Doctor William Hartnell, seen in colour for the first time.

All the other Doctors then appeared, right up to current Time Lord Matt Smith – taking in companions Sarah-Jane Smith and Clara Oswald along the way.

Meanwhile Matt could be heard in voiceover, saying: “I’ve been running all my lives, through time and space; every second of every day for over 900 years.

“Our future depends on one single moment of one impossible day, the day I’ve been running from all my life. The day of the Doctor.”

The clip quickly caused a reaction on Twitter, with one saying: “The Doctor Who trailer is amazing…got me more pumped than most movie trailers.”

Another added: “I have a feeling the 50th Anniversary episode will be the best thing I have ever seen.”

The episode – which also features David Tennant, Billie Piper and John Hurt – will be simulcast worldwide on Saturday November 23.

It will mark Matt Smith’s penultimate appearance as the Doctor, before he is replaced by Peter Capaldi at Christmas.
