Samuel West has confessed he is desperate to be cast as Doctor Who following Matt Smith’s exit.
The Mr Selfridge star, 46, revealed he had always wanted to play the Time Lord and thought that it might be time for someone older to step into the role on the BBC sci-fi show.
Samuel told RadioTimes.com: “If you’re asking whether I’d like to play Doctor Who, I absolutely would. I’ve always wanted to play Doctor Who. Hamlet and Doctor Who – and I’ve done Hamlet.”
He continued: “They can’t go on getting younger forever. Every Doctor, almost without exception, has been younger than the previous one and eventually we’ll just have this glittering foetus and that’s not going to work!”
Earlier this month it was announced that Matt would bow out of Doctor Who in the Christmas special, when he will be replaced by a new incarnation of the Doctor.
Since then there has been plenty of speculation about who might take charge of the Tardis, with Ben Daniels and Russell Tovey among the names mentioned.
