EastEnders was again named Best Soap at the British Soap Awards, but there was surprise success for BBC One’s daytime soap Doctors.
The weekday medical soap set near Birmingham won awards for Best Storyline, Best Single Episode and Best Dramatic Performance to actress Anita Carey.
EastEnders capped a magical year for the BBC One soap when Rob Kazinsky (Sean Slater) won Best Actor, Scott Maslen won Sexiest Male, Maisie Smith won Best Young Actor, Nina Wadia won Best Comedy Performance and teamed up with Nitin Ganatra to win Best On-Screen Partnership.
As well, Barbara Windsor received an award for Lifetime Achievement.
In 2008 Hollyoaks took six of the main prizes; in 2009 they received none.
