Romance is in the air for Mrs Tembe in the 3000th episode of BBC1’s daytime drama Doctors…

The surgery receptionist helps organise a blood/donor drive with visiting consultant, Rick, and takes quite a fancy to him.

Lorna Laidlaw, who plays the receptionist, giggled: “Let’s just say, Mrs Tembe has a mini romance in this hour-long episode.”

What’s on TV chatted to Lorna as the long-runnning daytime drama filmed its 3000th episode on location in Birmingham city centre, complete with Bhangra dancers and gunfire!

Lorna said: “I think the storylines of Doctors have been incredible. If the storylines didn’t grab you, we wouldn’t still be here. There’s also a real contrast with the characters. The cast and crew are incredible. The viewing figures have grown and we have a really good mixture of people who watch. Two doctors came up to us recently and said, ‘Mrs Tembe! I love you!’ That’s fantastic. Doctors crosses the board and that’s why we’re still here 15 years later.”

The anniversary episode of Doctors screens on Thursday, September 10 on BBC1.
