Downton’s Amy to star in edgy BBC cop thriller

Downton Abbey star Amy Nuttall has gone from costume drama to crime drama with a role in gritty new show By Any Means.

The actress, who made her name in Emmerdale before playing maid Ethel Parks in the ITV period drama, is making a guest appearance in the BBC One show alongside regular cast members Warren Brown, Shelley Conn and Gina McKee.

By Any Means is about a clandestine group of cops who take on criminals while struggling to stay on the right side of the law themselves.

Amy said: “I’m so excited to be part of this gripping new drama. Being on set with the fantastic cast and crew was really fun. My character is a hard-hitting journalist – very different from some of the other characters I’ve played, which was lots of fun.”

There will also be guest appearances by Homeland star David Harewood, Lock Stock actor Nick Moran and former Bond girl Honor Blackman.

Executive producer Belinda Campbell said: “We’re delighted to welcome such an extensive and talented list of guest stars to By Any Means, accompanying our wonderful main cast. There are some brilliantly crafty and manipulative characters throughout the series, which have been expertly brought to life by these gifted actors and actresses.”
