The 53-year-old has swapped Hollywood for Highclere Castle, making a guest appearance as an American wedding guest for a special sketch for the hit period drama.

Lady Grantham initially mistakes him for her husband, and he goes on to deliver a peck on the cheek to the Dowager Countess, played by Dame Maggie Smith, who is set to faint during the tongue-in-cheek scene.

George, who married British human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin in Venice in September, agreed to the cameo on Downton after becoming friends with actor Hugh Bonneville on the set of The Monuments Men, which he directed and starred in.
