EastEnders star Charlie Brooks talks to TV Times magazine ahead of Janine’s wedding to dodgy Michael Moon…

Next week, Janine is marrying Michael Moon. It will be her fourth marriage, and it looks like a lavish ceremony…
“I was really excited when I saw the Square decorated in lots of lovely purples. It looks really pretty and I loved the dress, but I would never want a wedding like that. I’d rather spend my money on other things.”

And what about your situation?
“I’m happily single at the moment and really enjoying being a mum. In fact, wearing a pregnancy bump on EastEnders did make me feel a bit broody.”

Janine’s future looks like it’s going to be bumpy for the time being, too!
“She feels really confused and shocked at that moment. Suddenly, she starts to question his motives and wonders if he’s marrying her just to get his hands on her money. She desperately wants to believe that he loves her and wants this wedding to go ahead.”

Do you and Steve John Shepherd – who plays Michael Moon – get on in real life?
“I love working with Steve and what’s great is that I think he and I have a long way to go in terms of Michael and Janine’s relationship. There’s a lot more to explore. They’re both toxic and I love the fact that things are so complicated between them.”

What can you tell us about the wedding?
“I was so happy when I read the script for the wedding. It’s very intense and although it was tiring to film, I loved doing it. Janine is very nervous and is determined not to look like an idiot in front of everyone.”

Are we right in saying that you’ll be taking a six-month break from the show in August?
“Yes. I wanted some breathing space really. It took a little bit of begging, but I got there in the end. I realise how lucky I am to be able to take a six-month break and have a job to go back to.”

Will you miss being away?
“I’ll miss Janine and bet I’ll be raring to go when I get back!”
