The first pictures have been released of EastEnders veteran Derek Martin making his return to Albert Square.

The 80-year-old actor, who plays Charlie Slater in the soap, will surprise Walford residents when he shows up on Christmas Eve as the surprise guest of Mo Harris (Laila Morse).

His appearance comes as part of Mo’s plans to make Kat and Alfie’s last night in charge of the Queen Vic as memorable as possible.

The pair – played by Jessie Wallace and Shane Richie – are facing possible homelessness over the festive season after losing the pub to new landlord Mick Carter (Danny Dyer) – who will  make his debut on Christmas Day.

Derek was a cast regular for over a decade, playing the role of cab driver Charlie from 2000-2011.

However those hoping to see a more regular return to EastEnders may be disappointed, as his latest appearance is a festive one-off.
