EastEnders producers are considering bringing back Sam Mitchell – with Danniella Westbrook playing her.
Bosses on the BBC1 soap apparently want Sam to come back to cause problems for ex-husband Ricky Butcher and his ex Bianca, according to reports in The Sun.
Danniella, 35, quit the soap in 2000 following a battle with cocaine addiction and was later replaced by actress Kim Medcalf – but bosses hope Danniella’s return will ‘shock’ viewers.
A source for EastEnders said: “She was the original Sam and the chemistry with Sid Owen as Ricky was exciting stuff. If she returns it will be the talk of soapland for months.”
Sid Owen and Patsy Palmer – who play Ricky and Bianca – came back to EastEnders in 2008 and Charlie Brooks recently returned as superbitch Janine Butcher.
The source said: “This would hark back to the Albert Square brat pack – Ricky, Bianca, Janine and Sam.”
Sam was last seen in the soap in 2005 after being falsely imprisoned for Dirty Den Watts’s murder.
She was cleared when brothers Grant and Phil proved that Chrissie Watts actually killed Den – but she then fled to Brazil to escape another four-year prison sentence for perverting the course of justice.
Mum-of-two Danniella was last seen on ITV1’s jungle reality show I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! in 2003.
