EastEnders could soon be welcoming a real cockney geezer – in the shape of actor Danny Dyer.

Danny, best known for roles in films such as Human Traffic, is being linked with a major part in the BBC1 soap in a bid to boost ratings.

And he has apparently already been in talks with BBC drama boss John Yorke about possible roles, according to reports in The Sun.

Insiders on the soap say that Danny could be just what EastEnders needs to beat ITV1 rivals Coronation Street and Emmerdale in the ratings.

One said: “Danny is ideal for EastEnders. He’s actually from the East End – and still lives there – and he’s got the whole geezer thing going on.”

Danny has already appeared in the glossy BBC drama Hotel Babylon and E4’s teen drama Skins.

He has also fronted several documentaries on football violence and the criminal underworld.

Last night a BBC spokesperson confirmed that Danny had met Yorke but added: “It’s very early days. No role has been offered to him.”
