EastEnders actor Jake Wood apparently says his soap character Max Branning is a changed man.

The actor says the Albert Square love rat – who cheated on his wife with his daughter-in-law and drove her so mad she tried to bury him alive – has turned over a new leaf.

Jake told the TV Times: “He’s made every effort to clean up his act while he was away; he claims to be a new man.

“Everyone’s got the ability to change. When someone goes through very traumatic events, like the burial stuff, it can have repercussions for the future, good or bad.”

Jake, 35 – who has a three-year-old daughter Amber and a baby son Buster with wife Alison – also revealed he’s looking forward to Father’s Day.

He says his soap alter ego is determined to be a good father too.

He said: “Max is quite complex. He’ll fight to win, he’s ruthless and, once the gloves are off, he takes no prisoners. He’ll go all out to win!

“He’s very damaged and the biggest regret in his life is missing out on Bradley growing up. The pain of that makes him determined for it to never happen again. He’s focused on his kids and he loves them; he makes every effort to be a good dad.

“Max and Tanya will always be connected and they’ll always love each other; it’s just whether they can make it work as a family…”
