EastEnders: ‘Jesus, Phil Mitchell was telling me off!’ says Sam Strike

EastEnders’ new young star Sam Strike, who plays Johnny Carter, has admitted he was scared shooting his first run-in with Phil Mitchell, played by Steve McFadden.

“Johnny was running down the street and Phil yelled, ‘You’d better keep running!’ Sam added.

“In my head I was thinking, ‘Jesus, that’s Phil Mitchell telling me off! I’ve watched this guy on TV and he’s the hard nut of Walford!’.”

“It was one of those moments!”

Sam also revealed that Kellie Bright truly is a mother figure for the cast of the Carter family on set.

Kellie and Danny Dyer joined the BBC soap at the beginning of the year as Linda and Mick Carter – who have three kids, Johnny, Nancy (Maddy Hill) and Lee (Danny-Boy Hatchard).

“Kellie has always got her eye out for us like a real mum would, but in a nurturing way rather than being controlling,” says Sam.

“She’s very good at coming up with suggestions if we can’t figure something out. There’s a sense that we’re a family and we’ve got each other’s backs.”
