Tickets please! Here's the Phil Mitchell actor in one of his first ever TV roles
What’s On TV were digging through the TV archives when we discovered this great shot of Steve McFadden, aka Phil Mitchell, in an old ITV children’s show called All Change.
Back in 1989, Steve wasn’t yet in EastEnders and he popped up as a bus conductor in All Change, which starred comedian Frankie Howerd. Steve looks seriously young in the snap – well, it was nearly 30 years ago!
It was very early in Steve’s career and he also turned up in ITV’s The Bill as a copper, plus he was in the great detective series Bergerac alongside John Nettles, who played the Jersey cop.
As for All Change, which also featured Darling Buds of May actress Pam Ferris and Benidorm actor Bobby Knutt, it ran for just a couple of series.
The following year – 20th February 1990, to be precise – Steve made his first ever appearance on EastEnders as Phil Mitchell.
Steve once recalled joining the show, saying: “I was really nervous. EastEnders started when I was at RADA aged 25 and each day I was coming home and watching it as I was learning to act. And then, after two years as a jobbing actor, there I was with all these famous people.”
EastEnders continues on BBC1.
